Understanding Financial Statements

This workshop is designed to introduce students to financial statements and reporting concepts. Students will get an introduction to accounting. The workshop is planned not to look at the accounting function from the accountant’s point of view, but more from the managerial or stakeholders’ perspective who have to use this financial information for different economic decisions. Students will learn the basic accounting principles and be introduced to the Company’s financial statements - Balance sheet, Proft & loss account and Cashflow Statements. Emphasis will be laid on understanding the business transactions and their tabulation in the books of accounts. Students will also be exposed to the financial statements of not-for-profit organisations. The workshop shall cover financial ratios to assess the health of any business. The skill shop pedagogy will mix formal lectures, case studies, classroom discussions and situation analysis.
